Indians Spend 7% of Their Day in Office Commute: Report

A recent report by office commute platform revealed that Indians devote more time in daily office commute compared to other countries around the world.

According to a report by MoveInSync Technology Solutions, an average Indian spends 7 percent of their day in commuting to office averaging less than 3 minutes per kilometer.

Titled ‘Travel Time Report Q1 2019 vs Q1 2108’ the report is based on the data collated from the rides on MoveInSync platform across Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, Mumbai, and Delhi-NCR.

The average travel speed across 6 cities indicates that India’s IT corridor takes 2 minutes and 26 seconds to cover a distance of 1km.

In terms of cities, the report found that office commuters in Chennai traveled the fastest with a speed of 25.7 km/hr, while Bengaluru and Mumbai traveled the slowest with an average speed of 18.7 and 18.5 km/hr. Hyderabad and Delhi-NCR traveled at 21.2 and 20.6 km/hr respectively.

In all the six cities, Monday was found to be the worst day of the week to travel to work with the highest average one-way commute time. While in Bengaluru, office goers reached office fastest on Tuesday, while Chennai and Hyderabad got to work the fastest on Friday.

The worst time to commute to work is found to be at 9 a.m. and 6-7 p.m. back home. According to reports, through altering or introducing flexible-work timing, a company’s employee has the possibility of cutting down the time spent on travel by 20 percent to 40 percent or 25-50 minutes a day.
