Indian-American wins Primary for Maryland Board of Education

Indian-origin Muslim woman has won the general election for the Prince George’s County, Maryland, Board of Education 5th district seat.

Raaheela Ahmed, 2015 graduate of the University of Maryland at College Park was the top vote-getter in the April 26 primary. She completed a double degree in economics and finance from the  University of Maryland.

She earned 9,624 votes or 36 percent to lead the way. She will also try to beat out Cheryl in the November general election.

Ahmed is an advisory associate of the global public sector at Grant Thornton LLP,  a henna artist at Amtul’s Henna Body Art and a court appointed special advocate in Prince George’s County.

Previously, she served as Gov. Martin O’Malley’s student representative on the University System of Maryland Board of Regents.
