Man identified standoff, at Burger King

Police have identified the man at the center of an hours-long standoff with police negotiators on Sunday inside a Burger King in southwest Baltimore.

Baltimore police has informed that George Johnson, 26years old, was armed with a gun when he held four people hostage, including two restaurant employees, a customer and Keysha Mackall's 7 years old daughter.

After the standoff ended on Sundy  Mackall said, "It has been like hell. My nerves were all over the place”.  T.J. Smith, chief of Baltimore police Media Relations said, “everyone, fortunately, was unharmed, (but) of course, traumatized by this incident" .

Mackall's daughter had been with a relative who works at the Burger King on Washington Boulevard when Johnson burst into the restaurant around 11 AM on. Sunday.

Smith told, "there was a sexual assault that had been reported a couple days prior, and charges were filed against George Johnson for sexual assault. Officers recognized him driving a vehicle, they initiated a traffic stop because he had an active warrant for that sexual assault,"

In afternoon, two of the hostages were to be released, and by 5 PM, the police took Johnson in custody.

Smith has informed, "This concluded with the help of a number of friends and family who assisted our negotiators with providing information, and negotiators were able to talk to him, but he was very upset and realized the gravity of the mistakes that he made that led him to this point” .

Police was about to file charges of handgun violations, illegal detention of hostages, reckless endangerment and auto theft.
