Pugh Replaced The Baltimore IT Director

The Baltimore Mayor, Catherine Pugh has replaced the city's IT director L. Jerome Mullen. Pugh said on Wednesday that she accepted the resignation of L. Jerome Mullen on Tuesday. Mullen held the information technology officer position for about three years and his salary was $163,200. Evette Munro, who had been the deputy director of office, has been named as the acting director. She joined the the city government in November 2015 and earns $144,288.

Pugh declined to offer the details about Mullen's reason for leaving. The administration did not provide immediately the copy of his resignation letter.

Pugh said, that is a personnel matter and I do not discuss personnel matters.The efforts to reach Mullen were not successful.

Pugh expects to begin searching immediately for a replacement. The Mayor's Office of Information Technology has been marred by various controversies in the recent years. Its last two directors left amid scrutiny.  Its last two directors left amid scrutiny.Mullen joined the office in the year 2011 as the director of information technology infrastructure and enterprise services. According to his online biography, he had directed and managed the launch of the city's new website.

Mullen is not the first high-profile person to leave the Pugh's senior leadership.

Embattled Housing Commissioner Paul T. Graziano resigned in the December after Pugh pledged to replace him.

Anthony McCarthy, a Pugh spokesman, said that the mayor wants to expand the information technology office's role by providing the public with more access to the city services and making it easier for people and businesses to interact with city agencies.

McCarthy said that Pugh will also be searching for the director who can "bring stability to the office."
