Medical Marijuana License Delayed in Maryland

On Friday, the Maryland's highest court has agreed to hear the arguments from attorneys who will represent the finalists for licenses to grow the medical marijuana.

The attorneys said that their clients should be allowed to intervene in the legal case which seeks to block the state commission from providing any more licenses to the people until the lawsuit is resolved.

The Chief Judge Mary Ellen Barbera has ordered a stay on the proceedings in the Baltimore City Circuit Court.

Judge Barry Williams has been scheduled to hold a hearing to consider in extending a temporary hold on awarding the licenses that was set to expire on Sunday.

The temporary hold from the Court of Appeals prevents Williams to extend his order from the last week.

Alternative Medicine, a company which was not selected as a finalist, is suing the state over its licensing process. The company alleges that the commission did not consider racial diversity of the applicants as set in the law.

Lawyers for the company also asked Williams to block the commission from providing any more licenses until the lawsuit is resolved.
