The Maryland state's department of corrections is banning visitors from all correctional facilities until further announcement, according to a spokesman for the department.
The proclamation came after personnel and inmates at Ohio and Pennsylvania facilities became ill from possible drug exposure.
28 people at an Ohio prison, became sick with signs of opioid exposure on Wednesday, according to the state highway patrol. The additional doses of Narcan have been supplied to the local hospital.

"We are taking precautions to ensure the safety and security of our employees and inmates," said Stephen T. Moyer, secretary of the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services.
Additionally, mail will not be distributed or opened to staff and inmates are advised to use protective equipment.
