Mojtaba Khamenei, the new Supreme Leader of Iran, is currently in a coma and receiving care at a hospital located in Qom, Iran, according to a report by the Times. The report, which references information from a diplomatic note shared by US-Israeli intelligence with their partners in the Gulf, stated that Khamenei suffered significant injuries in the airstrike that also resulted in the death of his father, the former Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, on February 28. As a consequence, he is unable to govern the country and is undergoing treatment in Qom. The memo states, as reported by the Times, that "Mojtaba Khamenei is in serious condition in Qom and cannot participate in any regime decisions. "
This memo also disclosed the Supreme Leader's location for the first time since he took on the role at the nation's helm. He is currently situated in a central city, which is 87 miles south of Tehran and is deemed a holy place according to Shia Islamic teachings. According to the memo, intelligence agencies from the United States and Israel became aware of the Supreme Leader's whereabouts but had not previously made it public. Since he took office, Khamenei has not appeared in public, leading to speculation about his health. There were rumors that the 56-year-old Shia cleric was killed in the same attack that took his father's life. Nevertheless, Iranian officials have repeatedly stated that Khamenei is still in charge of Iran and involved in decisions regarding the country's actions in the ongoing conflict in West Asia, despite acknowledging his injuries from the attacks on February 28.
Earlier, two statements claimed to be from Khamenei were broadcast on Iranian state television. Also, a video surfaced a few days ago showing the leader entering a war room and examining a map of Israel’s nuclear facility in Dimona.
Yesterday, the Supreme Leader expressed his disapproval regarding the death of the IRGC intelligence chief, Majid Khamenei, stating that such assassinations will not diminish the regime's strength. He also criticized Trump's comments, referring to them as primitive.
