The day following the dissemination of a video showcasing an Indian student being restrained and forced to the ground at Newark Airport in the United States, the US Embassy issued a statement on Tuesday asserting their intolerance for visa misuse or unlawful entry. In a communication shared on the social media platform X, the US Embassy in India declared, “The United States remains open to genuine travelers visiting our nation. Nevertheless, there is no inherent right to enter the United States. We will not and cannot accept illegal entry, misuse of visas, or any breach of US laws.” This incident has ignited considerable outrage on social media and raised apprehensions regarding the treatment of Indian students overseas. Although the embassy refrained from discussing this particular incident, it stressed that individuals holding visas are required to adhere to US regulations.

As indignation continues to intensify following the viral video, Kunal Jain, an Indo-American social entrepreneur, recounted his personal observations of the event on X (formerly known as Twitter). Jain uploaded an image of the student, asserting that he was in distress and was treated as a criminal by U.S. officials during the deportation process. “As an NRI, I experienced feelings of helplessness and sorrow. This is a human tragedy,” Jain remarked. He, who serves as the President of HealthBots AI, highlighted that the student was expressing himself in Haryanvi, with remarks like, “I’m not insane; they are trying to portray me as insane.” He also pointed out that such occurrences seem to be increasingly prevalent. “Every day, 3-4 similar situations take place. These young individuals receive their visas, arrive in the morning, and by evening, they are being sent back, restrained like criminals,” he noted, mentioning that numerous such incidents have surfaced in recent days.
I witnessed a young Indian student being deported from Newark Airport last night— handcuffed, crying, treated like a criminal. He came chasing dreams, not causing harm. As an NRI, I felt helpless and heartbroken. This is a human tragedy. @IndianEmbassyUS #immigrationraids pic.twitter.com/0cINhd0xU1
