A carefully thought-out morning routine is often connected to improved concentration, consistent energy levels, and better mental well-being. Specialists frequently mention that how the first moments of the day are spent can affect how everything else goes, making little habits especially significant for emotional health and efficiency. Mental health specialist Dr Daniel Gregory Amen has described a number of morning activities he believes can enhance focus, mood, and general wellness. In a post shared on Instagram on February 22, the psychiatrist listed the habits he suggests people should start their day with. The US-based psychiatrist kicks things off with a mindset activity. "Today will be a wonderful day. Get your mindset in gear," he states, emphasizing that mental readiness is more effective when combined with minor physical tasks. He recommends going outside soon after waking up for some natural sunlight. "Then head outdoors, unless it's really chilly, and soak up some sun. Take a brief walk just to boost your metabolism. Drink a large glass of water with half a lemon squeezed in. This helps cleanse your body," he adds. The psychiatrist believes that simple actions like getting sunlight, moving around, and staying hydrated can help stimulate both your body and mind.
Nutrition is another vital part of his suggested routine. Dr Amen shares that he begins his mornings with foods that support steady energy. "I begin almost every day with protein and healthy fats. Personally, I enjoy three eggs, and then I prepare a protein shake a little later in the morning. I practice intermittent fasting, so it's fine to have 12, 14, or 16 hours between meals, making a later breakfast acceptable," he clarifies. He also invites everyone to make mindful choices during the day. "Always consider this question: Is this beneficial or harmful for my brain? " Dr Amen’s advice focuses on small, easy-to-do habits — from catching some sunlight and drinking water to eating balanced meals and making thoughtful decisions — all designed to help people start their day with greater clarity and steadiness.
