Onir’s Debut Documentary Selected For Maryland Film Festival

The director Onir’s debut documentary Raising The Bar, is the official selection in the documentary film section of the Maryland International Festival which will take place from March 31st to April 2nd, in the U.S. Onir is thrilled that a story about the children and young adults with down syndrome is touching hearts across the globe.

Onir said that, when I was asked to make this documentary, the reason I agreed was because it touched me somewhere in my heart. My whole purpose to make this documentary was to ensure that this has a wide reach. And in a way, it can help the people to change the way they look at differently abled people. It is not a film, which is preachy or boring, it talks about the human stories across the continents. The fact that it has been selected at the film festival makes me feel that the challenges and problems are beyond the boundaries and how much the people can relate to the film.

The filmmaker, who has helmed the films such as I Am in the year 2011, Bas Ek Pal in the year 2006 and My Brother Nikhil in the year 2005, hopes that someday the Indian feature films or television shows will also have a character in their script with down syndrome as part of their story.

He also said that, “it is not easy in our industry, especially because getting the finances can be tough. I would love to someday write a script for a film on similar lines.”
