Nissan has been a part of India since 1965, beginning with the licensing of the Jonga for production in the country. Initially utilized by the Indian Army, the Jonga was later made available for civilian purchase. With nearly six decades of presence in India, Nissan has assured its continued operations despite selling its share in the Renault Nissan Alliance facility in Chennai. In fact, the company is preparing to introduce two completely new models within the next year.

Saurabh Vatsa, the Managing Director of Nissan Motor India, spoke to a select cohort of journalists during a virtual roundtable discussion. The first introduction will be a B-segment MPV designed to accommodate seven passengers, closely positioned to the Renault Triber, which serves as a popular option for families. This model is anticipated to launch in early 2026. Following this, a C-segment SUV is set to follow, likely based on the next-generation Renault Duster, which is expected to hit the market in India. This new C-SUV from Nissan is scheduled for a mid-2026 launch, accompanied by a seven-seater variant that should be available by early 2027. Additionally, there are intentions to expand the C-SUV lineup to include a fully electric variant. Nissan has stated that there will be no diesel options included in its future offerings in India, citing that the costs associated with diesel engines in B and C segment vehicles would be prohibitive for buyers, especially with the impending implementation of BS-7 emission regulations.

Nissan also noted that the company’s production and capacity plans remain intact, despite the recent divestment from the Renault Nissan Alliance plant in Chennai. This stability is attributed to a robust agreement between Renault and Nissan. The goal is to achieve sales exceeding 100,000 units in India, while also exporting 100,000 units from the country by the end of FY2027.
