In a crucial sea operation aimed at protecting India from the rising instability in West Asia, the Indian government has stepped up its energy logistics efforts by adding two more large ships to its LPG fleet. Reliable sources within the government have informed that the ships, Jag Vasant and Pine Gas, have been officially moved to safeguard the country's fuel supply chain from regional disturbances. This expansion comes at an important time, as India's top security officials are maintaining ongoing and direct communication with Iranian authorities. The aim of this unique diplomatic and military collaboration is to ensure the “guaranteed safe passage" of these tankers through the increasingly dangerous waters of the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. The introduction of Jag Vasant and Pine Gas shows a proactive “crisis-mode" strategy by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, with backing from the Ministry of External Affairs. Both ships are specialized LPG tankers designed for transporting liquefied petroleum gas under high pressure and controlled temperatures.
By incorporating these vessels into its active operations, India is effectively creating a “maritime buffer. " Sources suggest that these ships are being used to increase the movement of bulk LPG, making sure that local reserves stay full even if regional conflicts temporarily block key shipping routes. The most notable feature of this logistics effort is the strong coordination between different government bodies. CNN-News18 has discovered that India’s National Security Council (NSC) is collaborating with Iranian security forces to track the real-time movements of Indian-flagged and chartered vessels. Following recent drone strikes and increased tensions involving Israel and Iran, ensuring a “safety corridor" for Indian energy assets has become essential for New Delhi. This coordinated maritime deployment prevents Jag Vasant and Pine Gas from getting caught in any cross-border military actions, helping sustain the supply chain's strength despite changing logistical challenges.
The addition of these two ships greatly boosts the Indian fleet's ability to manage bulk LPG transportation efficiently. With the need for clean cooking fuel remaining high during the holy month of Ramadan and leading up to various festivals, any disruption in gas supply could result in a domestic inflation crisis. “These ships were already integrated into established maritime networks, but their relocation is a calculated effort to align with current national security needs," a senior government official stated.
